The École nationale supérieure d'architecture Paris-Malaquais is located in the heart of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, facing the Louvre, on a historic site shared with the Beaux-arts de Paris. The building occupied by the architecture school was designed by Auguste Perret's firm just after the Second World War. In 2020, the rehabilitation project entrusted to the Chatillon agency was completed, and the school entrusted us with redesigning the signage.
We chose to design a project that was economical in terms of resources, echoing the architectural work of Auguste Perret. The deployed signage is directly stenciled onto the walls. We designed a grid pattern that serves as warning stripes and recalls the structure of reinforced concrete, Perret's preferred material. The typography is sleek and inspired by geometric shapes. The neon color adds dynamism to the spaces and serves as a guiding thread throughout the building.
