The Monnaie de Paris offers a unique experience, combining exhibition galleries with views into the production workshops. Located in the heart of Paris, the world’s oldest company has been pursuing the mission entrusted to it by the King of France since 864: minting currency. As a privileged partner of the Olympic Games and the historic manufacturer of the medals, the Monnaie de Paris sought, on the occasion of this international event, a strong and emblematic intervention on its façade.
Having collaborated with the Monnaie since 2021, we proposed dressing the 18th-century façade to make it distinctive and unique. We designed a monumental medal, scaled to the architecture, which appears to leap from the façade. This piece was created using copper-toned paint applied directly onto the stone, complemented by a mirror-polished copper sign. A permanent version of this installation is currently under consideration.
Extending this intervention, we developed a wayfinding signage project that adopts the same copper materiality and is expressed through large, elongated panels. These panels integrate into the architecture by subtly playing with light. Box-letter signage identifies the main services and routes, offering a clear and elegant reading of the site while reinforcing the contemporary identity of the Monnaie de Paris.
